In a simple yet prayerful ceremony Salesian College Sonada remembered the face of the college in the hills for some 46 years (1963 to 2009) by marking 10th death anniversary of Italian missionary Fr Luigi Jellici on 11th August.
Under the initiative of Vice-Rector Dr Tomy Augustine and a team of six Brother students, the college cemetery was cleaned and a motley crowd of Gorabari villagers along with the college staff and students recited the Holy Rosary for the repose of the soul of the former staff member and parish priest at Sonada Fr. Luigi Jellici.
Principal Dr George Thadathil led the requiem prayers and imparted the final blessings.
Fr Jellici died at the age of 94 on the evening of 11th August, 2009 at 8.20 P.M. at Navajyoti Hospital, Gayaganga, Siliguri, surrounded by many Salesians and Sisters.

On 15th August, the day of the last rites, the funeral cortege left the hospital for Don Bosco School Mirik at 5.00 am and 7.30 am the body was carried in procession for the funeral Mass in the school auditorium. Rector of Don Bosco Mirik Fr. Mathew Pulingathil presided over the Eucharist along with 7 priests.
