Sonada, 28 December 2019 — Shillong: Salesian College Sonada alumnus Father Roland Kharkrang, the Assistant Director of Don Bosco Youth Centre Shillong was awarded for his contribution towards Tribal Literature. Christ School International, Nongsder, Meghalaya in collaboration with Kongkong Lige Loyi Foundation (KKLL Foundation) confered the award on him, 7th December 2019 at the Christ School International premises.
Born in 1945, he professed as a Salesian in 1968 and was ordained a priest in 1976. Alumnus of Salesian College Sonada, Fr Kharkrang graduated from the University of North Bengal in 1971. He completed B.Ed in 1977, M.Ed in 1981, M.A in 1988 and MPhil in Anthropology in 1992 from the North Eastern Hills University.
He worked in a number of educational Institutions in Shillong including St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Christ King College, Sacred Heart Boys’ Mawlai.
He was Rector of Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong from 1997 to 2000 and served in a number of parishes.
Fr Kharkrang has written many popular articles in Khasi Merilin Kshiar (1990) and Ka Jingim ba Jinghikai Jong u Ph. Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh (2015). He also has many books to his credit. Notable among them are Theatre: Art and Life (1994), Matriliny on the March (2012), and Ka Tynrai Ka Longbynriew u Khasi (2018).
