Sonada — Salesian College Sonada celebrated the Constitution Day on 26 November 2019 with a special Morning Assembly during which Roshesh Mukhia of History Department 3rd year gave a brief talk on the making of the Indian Constitution.
It was followed by Student Council President Bikash Agarwal who led the assembly in swearing by the Constitution.
Principal Dr George Thadathil reminded the assembly of the sacredness of the indian Constitution and the need for its leaders and citizens to respect and abide by the Indian Constitution.
India celebrates its Constitution Day or National Law Day on November 26 every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India on the same day in 1949 by the Constituent Assembly of India adopted it.
The Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950, which is celebrated as the Republic Day.
India declared November 26 as Constitution Day on November 19, 2015, by a gazette notification. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the declaration on October 11, 2015, while laying the foundation stone of the B. R. Ambedkar’s Statue of Equality memorial in Mumbai.
The day also marked the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar, who had chaired the drafting committee of the Constituent Assembly and played a pivotal role in the drafting of the constitution.
