The department of English organised a trek to Tiger Hill followed by Tibetan Refugee Center in Lebong on 23rd of November 2018. We started at 4:30 a.m. from Salesian College Sonada. Fr. Principal Dr. George Thadathil accompanied the group along with other faculty Dr. Terence Mukhia, Ms. Tapaswi Rahul Gurung and Ms. Bedika Rai.
The aim of witnessing the sun rise at Tiger Hill was a great success. Due to clear sky the sun rise was visible. Varied colours painted the sky leaving it a work of an art rich enough to be imitated by the human world both in words and colours. The beauty of sun rays reflected on Kanchanjungawas another amazing sight to cherish. The crowd however, began to fade gradually leaving only us to be lost in the sunrise for quite a longer time. Mesmerised by the beauty of Nature overall we headed towards Chowrastha via Alubari route on foot. From Chowrastha we trekked downward towards Tibetan Refugee Center in Lebong. We visited Photo gallery which narrates the tale of Tibet, Chinese expansion policy, Tibetan refugees in India, Indo-Tibetan pacts, and His Holiness Dalai Lama and India. There were also the photographs of traditional Tibetan Marriages. The photographs gave us the overall view of Tibetan landscape and history. The old printing machine was exhibited along with the script frames. The other part of the center had a showroom where the handicraft items like bags, carpets, hats etc. prepared at the center were kept for sale.
Our trek ended in Darjeeling. We hiked 15 kilometers altogether. Overall it was an inspiring moment. We not only enjoyed nature around us but also man’s endeavour to survive in and along with nature.
This tour helped us find team work.
