Sonada — In the recently published results of 1st and 3rd semester examinations under North Bengal University, girl students of Salesian College Sonada out performed boys. In the results published on 14th January 2020, out of 4 students who secured SGPA 8 and above 3 were girls. All four toppers belonged to English Honours department – Sharon Lepcha (8.31), Aiswarya Mukhia (8.08), Amy Sinchuri (8.08) and Larinzen Syangden (8.08). A total of 84 students from 10 departments appeared for the exams which had 82 per cent pass . The results of B.Com students are not included in the current list.
The 3rd semester students whose results have been declared are distributed in the following departments: English (24), Political Science (22), BCA (9), Sociology (8), Mass Communication (3), History (3), Education (2), BBA (2) and BA General (10).
Of these, 22 students secured SGPA 7 and above (excluding SGPA 8 and above) from the following departments: English (8), Political Science (8), Sociology (3), Education (2) and History (1). Of 84 students from 9 departments who appeared for examinations, 15 did not qualify including the whole batch of 9 BCA students who did not clear Maths paper.
Among 142 students from1st semester who bagged SGPA 8 and above were Bipashana Rasaily (8.90) and Anidhya Thapa (8.00) from Sociology department and Martin Rai (8.20) from Mass Communication. Of 21 students who secured SGPA 7 and above were students from Political Science (13), Mass Communication (2), Sociology (2) and one each from English and Education. 25 students are not qualified to clear the semester.
1st semester students belong to the following departments: English (37), Political Science (28), Sociology (18), BCA (15), B.Voc (14), Mass Communication (13), BA (8), Education (5), and History (4). Out of 15 BCA students only one qualified to clear the semester.
The performance of a student in a semester is indicated by a number called SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) which is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all courses registered by the student during the semester.
