Report on 204th Bhanu Jayanti

The department of Commerce,Salesian College Sonada organised a cultural event commemorating the 204th birth anniversary of the first Nepali poet (Adhikavi) Bhanu Bhakta Acharya on the 13th of July 2018. The department organised a programme comprising of interdepartmental Nepali poem recitations, writing competition and a Nepali spell bee competition.

The Nepali spell bee competition was held two days prior to the main day of the event I.e. on the 11th of July. The invitation for the same was sent to all the departments on the 27th of June 2018. For this competition there were two students representing their respective departments and a total of 16 students participated in it. Shristi Gupta from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism secured the first place, followed by Sushmita Gurung of English department and Reshmika Rai of History department who secured the second and third places respectively.

The main event on the 13th of July saw poem recitations by students of various departments along with performances of cultural song and dance. A quiz competition based on the life and times of Bhanu Bhakta was also hosted by RJ Samir. For the poem recitations, a total of 18 poems were sent in from the different departments prior to the main event, out of which 9 poems were selected to be recited on the main event day.

The hosts of the programme were Sarad Tamang (B.Com, 3rd year) and Sandeep Tamang (B.Com, 2nd year).

  •    Introduction of Bhanu Jayanti/Audience Quiz by RJ Sameer
  •    Declaration of the result of spell Bee/poem
  •    A short speech by Fr CM Paul (Vice Principal)
  •    A vote of thanks by Anuj Mangrati (Dept. representative)
  •    National Anthem

The winner for the best Nepali poem recitation was Roshes Mukhia (history department),

And the winner for the best poem writing was Bikhyat Thyami (BCA),
