Salesian College hosts village committees to save environment

Some 20 members of local committees from five villages came together at Salesian College Sonada to form a Paryaran Sudhaar Samity (Environment Improvement Committee), 18 August 2019.  The discussions which lasted for over 2 hours was lead by local 8th Mile NGO Tieedi director Mr Utsov Pradhan and Vishal Rasailee.
After a few slides presentations and video clips on the current scenario of polluted environment around the villages neighbouring the college, Mr Pradhan impressed upon participants on the need of forming a registered Society to be able to involve all stake holders of the village committees.
The participating village Samity are: Chattakpur, Raja Hatta, 8th Mile, Gorabari, Tieedi and Salesian College and Radio Salesian.
Among the participants from Salesian College Sonada were Principal Fr George Thadathil, Radio Salesian Director Fr C.M. Paul, Radio Salesian program Director RJ Samir Chhetri, and HoD of Sociology Assistant Professor Sumina Chhetri.
Mr Pradhan exhorted the participants saying, “This is our area, and it s our responsibility to keep  it clean and plastic free.”
Next meeting is scheduled for mid-September.
