Salesian College starts new academic session

Salesian College Sonada held the inauguration of the academic year 2019-2020 on 1st July 2019 with a Eucharistic celebration in the college chapel attended by the first year students while their parents / guardians had a tour of the campus.
Presiding at the Holy Eucharist Vice Rector of the college Dr Tomy Augustine, invoked God’s Wisdom – the spirit of learning – to bless the faculty and students as they embark upon a 3-year academic journey.
The official academic year inaugural program started in the auditorium with choir signing the college anthem and new Vie-Principal Br Jose Puthenpura addressing the students on the importance of acquiring skills while clearing the degree program, so that students have better opportunity to be employed.
New Campus Minister and former Vice Principal Fr C.M. Paul notified the parents and students about the new fee waiver scholarship schemes in the categories of academic merit, sports, media skills as well as for BPL (Below Poverty Line) persons and the differently abled.
Heads of departments took turns and explained their specific subjects and its career opportunities.
In his concluding remarks at the end of the inaugural session, Principal Dr George Thadathil congratulated 128 new admissions and introduced the new faculty members namely Mr Pukar Tamang (History), Miss Jessica Merilyn Nyss (Political Science), Mr Samip Sinchuri (Sociology), and Dr Deepjoy Katuwal (English).
After snacks and tea, the parents had a brief meeting with faculty and management. They also elected two representatives each to the College Council namely Ms. Anu Tamang (Kurseong), Ms .Reshma Sinchury (Gorabari), Mr. Puran Gurung (Sonada) and Pritam Rai (Ghoom).
