The first ever Mukti Quiz 2019 was organised by MARG (Mankind in Action for Rural Growth) a Darjeeling based NGO in collaboration with MBKS (Mukh Bandh Kaam Suru) and Darjeeling Police on the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, 30 July.
Seven High School Teams and six college teams (out of nine colleges in Darjeeling) participated. Each team consisted of 3 participants and some 10 students from each institution to cheer their teams.
The school teams included : Notre Dame Academy, Gyanoday Niketan, Maharani Girls HS School, MSK Sinchal, St. Mary’s Singla, and Loreto School.
Among the college teams were St. Joseph’s College, Government College Darjeeling, Southfield College, Ghoom Jorbuanglow Degree College, Salesian College Sonada and Kurseong College.
The competition held at GDNS Auditorium Darjeeling was aimed at improving the general awareness of women rights, child rights, human trafficking while developing the knowledge and excellence base among the students through healthy and highly motivating competition.
Lady Police Officer in Charge Darjeeling Ma’am Bandana Pradhan, Director of Radio Salesian and former Vice Principal of Salesian College, Sonada, Father C.M Paul and retired teacher of Loreto School Darjeeling Smt Lalita Tamang graced the inaugural function with their short speeches.
The Quiz Master – General Secretary of MBKS Mr Rahul Amulya Pradhan – kept the college teams racking their brains to crack the codes to his new format in quizzing which he was experimenting for the first time with college teams.
The entire quiz consisted of three rounds: theme based, miscellaneous, and the four pics one word round.
Mazes of intuited and interesting questions were asked to the students, testing each aspect of educational knowledge like current affairs, enacted laws, and rights questions.
Loreto School won the school level quiz while Gyanoday Niketan was the runners up.
The college level quiz which followed the school event had four different sections in the final round making it more exciting for the students and the audience.
The winners were Darjeeling Government College team which had 2nd year students and Salesian College Sonada which fielded 1st year students won the second prize.
Lady Officer Ma’am Bandana Pradhan distributed the Certificate of participation signed by Darjeeling Town DSP Mr. Rahul Pandey, Quiz Master Rahul Pradhan and MARG General Secretary Mr Nirnay John Chettri.
Secretary of AWIC Ma’am Gunkesari Pradhan and Fr. C.M. Paul handed over the medals and trophies to the winners of school and college teams respectively.
The event concluded with special thanks to sponsors of the event Glenary’s Confectionery who supplied lunch packets to all, Vanguard Computers and TIEC Siliguri.
