On 21 April seventeen daring students from the department of BBA, Salesian college Siliguri campus went along with faculty members Mr. Patrick Johnson and Mr. Rupam Mazumder to a remote village, Thapadura in Darjeeling Hills. The group trekked down from Sonada town for two hours to the village and got accommodation in Savio Vidyanand School.
Once in the village everyone got busy in cleaning, cooking and discovering the rustic village life. They got merged into the village life and the second day become more interesting as the young people of the area joined them to a cleaning drive of the school with the village surrounding. Towards evening the student enjoyed walking in the hilly terrain enjoying the cool weather and the scenic beauty so very attractive with tea gardens, hamlets and bye lanes. In the evening a bonfire session with lots of entertaining items added to the thrill of rusticity.
On the third day, 23 April the return journey started with the climb to Sonada Town and visit to the mother campus in Gorabari. The team reached back to Siliguri by 6 pm tired, enriched and happy. The students had a very memorable experience with a lot of learning moments. The theories learned in the class regarding group work turned practical when they got involved in cleaning, cooking and carrying heavy loads. They realized the various aspects of coordination and team work. They witnessed the challenging life of people living in remote areas.
