The 3rd year students of the Department of Sociology had organised a visit to the old age home located at Pailadhura, Rohini on the 17th of August, 2018. The old age home is run by the Hope Home Welfare Organization. There were 20 people residing at the home. The students, under the supervision of the faculty members of the Department of Sociology, Nomu Sherpa and Ritu Mangar, started the journey to the old age home from Salesian College Sonada at 10:30 am. After an arduous journey uphill, the team reached the spot at 12:55 pm.
Anish Tamang presented an introductory speech highlighting the aim of the visit. The main aim of the visit was to create awareness among the students about old age problems.
After the speech, the students initiated a cleanliness and hygiene drive during the course of which the students cleaned the rooms. They also worked to improve the personal hygiene of the members by giving them haircuts, trimming their nails, washing their feet and many such activities. The teachers checked the blood pressure and made them aware about the dos and don’ts related to the problems of blood pressure. The students also gave foot massage to the people.

- 50 kg rice
- 6 kg dal
- 1 carton of refined oil
- First aid box
- Clothes, among the people.
Individually the people were given biscuits, glucon-d, towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, sweets and instant noodles. After this the students took an interview with all the members. Ashwini Lama’s thanksgiving speech marked the end of the programme. The students reached the campus at 5:30 pm. The entire trip was an enriching and purposeful experience for the students as well as the teachers.
