On the first day of class for 2nd and 3rd year students returning after winter holidays, Salesian College Sonada Women’s Cell organised a Workshop on Life Skills and Personal Development for Women.
The day commenced with a special assembly for all students including first year students, in the auditorium on themes like ‘what do you want?’, ’take care of yourself; know yourself; set realistic goals; and build your dream.’
The chief resource person for the day was Ms Elizabeth Clarke Managing Director of Hotel Windamere – the premiere colonial hotel in Darjeeling. A British-Canadian who has been working in Darjeeling for over 25 years, Ms Clarke has volunteered for motivational and inspirational speaking with ‘Youth at Risk’ and other school children (16 to 18 years of age).
After the inspirational talk in which Ms Clarke highlighted her personal struggles to arrive at success as a person with talents of being a singer and performer, and two sessions of group exercises, the students were divided into small groups to share areas which need their urgent attention. The groups concluded their sharing session with preparation of charts which were later displayed and shared.
The college provided lunch for over 400 students and faculty, and concluded the day with a post lunch session, addressed by the Principal who exhorted both faculty and students to cooperate with new initiatives introduced for a well disciplined educative community.
Workshop on Life Skills and Personal Development for Women organised by Women Cell of Salesian College Sonada and funded by United Board, Hong Kong.
