Sonada, 18 February 2020 — Three students of Salesian College Sonada are part of 19 member West Bengal State Team selected for National Student Youth Festival scheduled to be held later in the year.
The participants from Salesian College Sonada are Nezain Lepcha of B.Com 2nd semester; Nima Sherpa of History 4th semester; and Depsang Sherpa B.Com 4th semester.
While Nezain Lepcha was the district level group leader and member of dancing group, Nima Sherpa played traditional instrument “Tungna”, and Depsang Sherpa played traditional Lepcha drum.
“We started our journey to the nationals from Kurseong where we had Block level competition. From there we were selected in the Sub-divisional competitions held at GDNS Hall Darjeeling where we secured first position. From Darjeeling we went to Kolkata for the state level events where we came first among 23 districts in Tribal dance,” says group leader Nezain Lepcha.
The three-day state-level cultural competition and programme of the West Bengal State Student Youth Festival was held at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan at Salt Lake from 10 to 12 February 2020.
An effort on the part of West Bengal state government to inspire the student and youths of the state had some 2,000 students participating.
The prize distribution and closing ceremony was held on February 12.
During morning assembly on 18 February, Principal Fr George Thadathil felicitated the team members.
